Porlock

Porlock and Porlock Weir

Porlock is a delightful village with many interesting shops to browse, a Vistor Centre and down beside the sea, below the wooded hillside, is magical Porlock Weir which was once a busy port but is now a peaceful and delightful little harbour for yachts and fishing boats. The beach water quality here achieved recommended grade. A walk along the coast will bring you to the smallest church in England at Culbone. The South West Coastal Footpath runs nearby with breathtaking views across the Bristol Channel.

From Porlock, you will be struck for choice over taking the famous 1,350 feet in under three miles drive of Porlock Hill and the picturesque Toll Road, both of which lead you to the wild and unspoilt beauties of North Devon where you may see the Exmoor Ponies and, if you are lucky, any of the 1,000 red deer that roam the Exmoor National Park.

They say that, from Dunkery Beacon, it is possible to see 16 counties! You will be in Lorna Doone country and may visit Oare Church where Lorna Doone was shot. History has left us much archaeology on Exmoor - look for prehistoric standing stones and ancient barrows.
